Why Karate for Kids and Children

Our motto has always been Good Manners; Respect; Politeness and Discipline (Listen), BUT above all it has to be fun!  Karate for children entails more than fighting and self-defence:

Firstly 4-5 year olds don’t know left from right and a straight line is a difficult concept. The formal structure of the Karate Dojo with its emphasis on respect and courtesy helps to install a sense of discipline in children. In girls it installs a sense of empowerment and confidence.

  1. Physical fitness and regular exercise leads to co-ordination and balance
  2. Children develop confidence by virtue of achieving goals and improving their physical abilities
  3. Karate develops discipline, focus and respect for their seniors.
  4. Karate requires concentration and mental focus
  5. Karate will improve social skills and interaction with other children, teaching them vital life skills which in turn leads to confident and well routed members of society.
  6. Karate will give them the confidence to stand up for themselves: Self Defence and awareness.

No special clothing is initially required, but a formal karate suit called a DOGI gives one a sense of identity.

Kids and Children do regular gradings and graduate to new colour belts as they progress to the next level.

TEENAGERS and ADULTS

Kyokushin Karate is an effective martial art for self-defence and is considered the strongest karate. Women particularly benefit from Kyokushin Karate; it is an effective direct contact martial art, which creates confidence and empowers women.

Shihan Bas has produced many male and female champions, including the only world champion ever to come out of Africa Shihan Samson Muripo. At present our chief instructor at our Honbu in Green Point CT is Shihan Charmaine Abrahams assisted by Sensei Christian Menda.

Classes for adults are held 5 days a week with beginners on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
